Conclusion

I made a point of wearing this headset during all waking hours, and unlike the Jabra's ear-penetrating earbud design, this headset allows you to hear normally out of your headset ear and throughout the day my ear did not get sore or tired. I am generally unable to wear in-ear headphones as they tend to irritate my skin after a few minutes, and I was worried at a few points that I was suffering from the same problem, but my ear got used to the headset right away and comfort became a non-issue. This headset weighs next to nothing, and you'd be hard-pressed to even remember that it was on.

As the performance of this headset was above and beyond any other headset, I did want to figure out the secret to its clean sound. Apparently the system is very sophisticated, as it builds its noise cancellation algorithm around identification of when the wearer is talking - by matching up the sound of the talking with its resultant jawbone vibrations, the headset can actually pick out the speech and give priority to that portion of the audio signal while de-emphasizing background noise. The headset also processes and enhances incoming audio and dynamically adjusts the volume based on outside noise, so that as one moves into a noisy environment the headset's sound is able to keep up. I found myself able to speak normally while on the phone rather than having to yell into the microphone to get my point across - the person on the other end only heard my voice.

Is the ability to have the cleanest possible sound in any situation worth the $130? Probably; although a $60 headset will get the job done, stress-free communication that goes beyond the built-in capabilities of the phone to where the headset is optimizing both the incoming and outgoing sound can be priceless, especially if one is planning to use this headset while out and about. Factor in the tiny size and beautiful, futuristic design as well as the comfort and ease of use, and it is obvious why the Aliph Jawbone is receiving the attention and praise it has enjoyed thus far.

Nice review - I have a Jawbone and although I have been told I come in loud and clear, the video proves how much it can cancel the sound, indeed.
