Software Bundle

pcsuiteIncluded with the phone is a suite of Sony/Ericsson and 3rd party application software intended to make dealing with the phone on your PC, a simpler process.

When connected via USB in "Phone Mode" or bluetooth, the Syncronize function allows yousync to sync your phone with either Outlook or Outlook Express's Address book. It doesnt seem to support anything else, nor was the documentation very clear on this. Still, if you use Outlook or Outlook Express, you can easily manage contacts outside the phone and transfer them periodically back and forth to keep everything straight.

There are some simple applications included with the phone, to make dealing with the phone fairly simple for the “newbie” =).

Sony Image Editor is a simple editing application. It features a handy bounding box, so you can crop pictures to properly fit the phones 128x160 screen.

MMS Studio is another fairly simple application, allowing you to construct MMS picture and audio messages on the PC, and upload them to the phone. This is handy if you're not comfy typing out longwinded diatribes on cell phones.

filemanagerFile Manager, brings up an explorer-like interface directly to the phone's internal memory and the phone's included Micro M2 memory stick. This is handy, allowing easy browsing of files when in “Phone Mode” via USB. When in “File Mode”, the internal and Micro M2 memory sticks instead map as removable drives in My Computer.

Disc2Phone is an application for ripping your audio CD's to mp3disc2phone

(at bitrates up to 192kbps) and ultimately transferring them to your cellphone. While there are better ripper's out there, it's a nice touch, especially coming from Sony.

albumAdobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition is also included. When you're in “File Mode” with the phone connected, the application auto starts, and grabs copies of all new picture and video content on the phone. While a bit redundant, and a tad annoying to someone like me who prefers to handle his own media, it's a nice touch and allows easy and simple management capabilities.

The Mobile Networking Wizard, allows you to create “virtualnetwork

modems” for the purpose of utilizing the phones GPRS and EDGE data connectivity capabilities with a PC or laptop, without having to buy a seperate GPRS/EDGE modem. Handy for the on-the-go traveler who needs something better than dialup on the road. Since i dont have a data services plan on the account however, I was unable to use or test the phones GPRS and EDGE data capabilities.

Now that we've covered Sony's rather complete software bundle, let's take a look at the actual phone and it's applications.
