The Apple iPhone - Part 2 - Camping Out - The Directors Cut
Finally Inside

Finally Inside

As I walked in, I was asked whether I was buying one or two, and the throngs of employees walked around with demo iPhones to show us. I was in a state of disbelief when I first saw the iPhone, since the anticipation leading up to the event had elevated the device to mythical status and now I saw that the iPhone was real. As I played with it and ran through its features I saw that it was not all a dream and that this phone really does function exactly as their press materials demonstrate.

I also realized that pictures and videos do not do this phone justice - although they can show the device off, to truly appreciate this phone one must have one in one's hand. My fiancée is not a gadget freak by any means, but after playing with my iPhone it was instant lust - from the composition of the line we already knew this device has mass appeal.

As the line moved along, accessories were handed out Dim Sum style, and chargers, screen protectors, and cases were handed out to the lucky visitors in Apple's inner sanctum. I obtained the well-worth-it screen protectors (the screen is glass, but I know I will find some way to scratch it if I don't apply a protector) and an employee with a hand-held credit card scanning Palm PDA machine checked me out with grim efficiency. The obscene number of employees staffing the store clapped and high-five'd me and I felt like a celebrity as I left the store and headed home. I went to the Apple store not just for the obvious reason that they had the highest stock numbers, but because it is a rare experience to see Apple's product for the first time in their unrivaled retail environment that companies like Dell are currently wishing they could duplicate.

Do not think we are leaving this to settle. Within a few hours we should have the video review done and posted for your viewing pleasure. So far there does not seem to be any warts on this frog-prince. Stay Tuned!!!
