Model: Hanns-G HW192D Provided by: Hanns-G Price: Estimated - $180-200 Hanns-G is a relative unknown in the "brand-scape" when it comes to PC monitors and LCD Televisions. The past year however they've been slowly making their presence known through major online retailers. Their pricing is always aggressive, which often leads one to believe there is some sacrifice in quality. As we hope you will discover from the video review, no such sacrifices are taking place here. We've reviewed Hanns-G products before. As a matter of fact the last monitor we reviewed, the HW191D has identical specifications in as far as the TFT panel is concerned. The variances here are primarily the overall product finish, which is a nice glossy piano black, and this displays adjustable height and ability to be used in portrait mode. To compliment the video, we also include a photo gallery, and some following comments by Scott and Nigel. Photo Gallery Scott's Opinion: For the money, this is an incredible bargain. Also, I'm firmly converted to a wide screen "lifestyle". The extra desktop real estate is extremely welcome, and wide screen gaming....well, you'll never go back. My only "gotcha's" are subtle and almost irrelevant. A retail purchaser looking at the packaging would be underwhelmed. From a sturdiness standpoint it's well packaged, but from an eye appeal standpoint, it's extremely boring and uninformative. The On Screen Display controls are a bit difficult to navigate, but as I stated in the video, this isn't a daily chore, so it's no big deal. The monitor includes 2 watt stereo speakers, but you'd have to be rather desperate to rely on them. Acceptable on a business workstation desktop perhaps, but nowhere else. I highly recommend this "sleeper" brand and excellent product. Nigel's Opinion: From what we could tell, the HW192D and the HW191D use the same TFT panel. The HW191D sports a less appealing non-gloss bezel and isn't maneuverable. You can read our review of the Hanns-G HW191D here. With response times of 5ms, contrast ratios of 700:1, and a crisp clear picture, both these monitors are a bargain. Obviously, if we had to choose, we'd go with the HW192D. We suggest doing a search on deal websites for these monitors, and due to past issues, we never recommend TigerDirect.com. NewEgg.com, Directron.com and Amazon.com are all good retailers selling Hanns-G products. There is somewhat of an LCD price war going on right now, with even brand names like ViewSonic, Acer, Samsung, etc… selling monitors near the Hanns-G price range. However, these monitors mostly have lackluster specs compared to the Hanns-G products. Those that do have the same specifications, are priced over $200.00 USD, or don't offer a good bezel design. Hanns-G has been able to keep their price levels below the brand name LCD war. This is mainly due to the fact that under the name Hannstar, they make the TFT panels that go into a lot of these brand name monitors. We hope to review some of these brand name bargain monitors soon for comparison…. we’ll keep you updated.
With that being said, Hanns-G has a lot of work on there
hands in the marketing arena. Joe Smith walking by this monitor in its current retail
packaging wouldn't think twice. From the outside of the box, it looks like
another generic LCD with no mention of the awards its received, quotes from
editors like ourselves, and the bland look of the box is a true turn off. With
their pricing, we feel Hanns-G could fit perfect into a "really good, really
cheap" market segment.
