Conclusion

noctualogoNoctua has clearly put forth considerable effort in redefining what a low noise fan can be, and by doing so they have significantly altered the compromises involved when considering building a "Silent" PC. Altered them in a positive manner too. Sporting a much longer lifespan than the competition, increasing CFM relative to RPM, and doing so with less generated noise, Noctua has clearly bested most of the compromises associated with Silent PC design.

Noctua has succeeded in showing us the quietest and most efficient low speed fans we've ever had the pleasure to use. Compared to other case fans, they're a little on the expensive side, but not obtrusively so.

If you're a builder with silent running in mind, we see Noctua's NF-S12 and NF-R8 fans as excellent choices, assuming your ok with the price, and the somewhat "odd" color scheme of the fans themselves. We highly recommend them.
