Introduction

For many, the idea of mixing water and electronics is unearthly. Watercooling, a method in which water is used to cool the CPU, is not the only option for computer enthusiasts seeking high performance cooling. When in search of such a cooling solution the name Swiftech comes to mind. Swiftech is known for their extremely high performance cooling solutions. These solutions consist of air and water based products. High performance cooling does come at a significant cost however. If you’re willing to shell out the extra cash, Swiftech should definitely be considered for your cooling needs. Today we will be looking at the MCX4000 heatsink designed exclusively for the Intel Pentium 4 processor. The MCX4000 is an air-based product for those enthusiasts that fear treading water.

Before we go any further, let’s take a look at the MCX4000’s specifications.

Heatsink

-Base: CNC machined, C110 copper base, 3.14"W x 3.5"L x .375"H, flatness better than 0.001", micro surface finish 8 or better.

-429 Helicoid Pins made of High Thermal Conductivity Aluminum Alloy, press fitted in the base.

-Overall heatsink dimensions 3.14"x3.5"x1.55"

-Weight: 21 oz (600g)

Retention mechanism

Packaging for the MCX4000 is by no means fancy but adequate nonetheless. The heatsink unit is surrounded by foam to ensure no damages during transport occur. Inside the box you’ll find everything necessary to get the heatsink unit installed. The MCX4000 does not come with a fan. You will need to purchase a fan separately. Inside the box you’ll find an easy to understand manual, screws for 70mm and 80mm fans, Philips screws, steel standoffs, hex lock nuts, fiber washers, and high quality Arctic Alumina compound (the MCX4000 now also comes with fan brackets for 90mm fans). It’s nice to see that Swiftech provides high quality heatsink compound. Most heatsinks come with generic goop.
