Page 6 of 6 Conclusion The Vantec Vortex definitely hits the nail on the head, but does not drive it all the way in. What keeps it from shining is the poor choice of plastic for the faceplate, the lack of variety in fan speed, and the lack of dampening on the cross-flow fan. What keeps this cooler on top is the temperature display, the cross-flow fan, the performance, and the style. The cross-flow fans' even airflow is appreciated and respected for its innovation. This allows the cooler to achieve comparable heat dissipation capacity with other products that employ direct heat sink contact. The Vortex hangs with the best, such as the cool drive series. For a server environment where sound is of little consequence, this cooler is perfect. This hard drive cooler is best suited for enthusiasts with a taste for real time information. However, the Flexibility and ease of use pushes this product into a slighter broader audience of beginners and intermediate users. Overall, this is a well engineered unit.
The Vortex is more than sufficient for the needs of this home storage server. Vantec has most certainly lived up to their established reputation as one of the leaders in cooling system technology. With an even combination of positive and negative aspects, which can change based on personal preference, this cooler is definitely recommended.
