We've got something a little different for you today, a mainboard preview. While we wouldn't normally do just a preview article, as we've tried to broaden our coverage of new P965 chipset mainboards for Intel Core 2 Duo systems we've ran across a potential gem in the rough. Though the board we have has an issue, we're impressed enough with it's potential to give you a sneak peek before we do hardcore testing of the board.

Intel's P965 chipset has finally hit the scene with wide availability, and is becoming the platform of choice for those building Core 2 Duo Systems. It's with this in mind that we decided to take a look at one offering from Gigabyte, the Gigabyte GA-965P-S3. We'll tell you up front this is a board that leaves us scratching our heads, going “what was Gigabyte thinking?”. It's not all bad, not at all. To better understand what we mean, I guess you'll have to read the review, eh?

Many Abit motherboard users didn't have a quite so merry christmas this year. Seems to be a little problem with the new Abit AV8 motherboard for the socket 939 Athlon64. From what I've read in the numerous forum posts it appears to work fine with the old 130nm Newcastle core Athlon64, but if you put in a new 90nm Winchester core Athlon64....
