After turning on the display, we were amazed at how well the color looked. Without calibration, the monitor is ready to go. One can tell right away that the LCD used is very high quality. Compared to other monitors costing upwards of $500.00USD, there's little difference in picture quality. The vibrant colors, clear look, and no need for calibration are positively a plus. Looking at the picture quality alone, one might easily assume this monitor sells for over $400.00USD.

We took some screenshots to display the advantages of having a widescreen display. Watching a movie while writing an essay and browsing the web all at the same time are very doable on this unit. While looking at cardiac MRI images, the colors were perfect and vibrant. The speakers performed well, but certainly are not ideal for listening to music or playing games.

In Half Life 2 and Counterstrike Source, running 1440 x 900 at 60Hz, we had no problems. There was almost no streaking. The response time was shocking. However, at 75Hz, the monitor encounters a v-sync problem as seen in the above pictures. When set back to 60Hz, the problem resolved itself. It's important to keep these type of displays set at 60Hz, setting the number any higher won't make a significant difference.

To avoid the problem we encountered, installing the Hanns-G INF driver provided is a must. If needed, there are many freeware monitor calibration utilities. For graphics designers and those needing perfect color, it would have been nice for Hanns-G to provide this software on there included CD. However, we can't stress enough how well the unit performs and looks out of the box.
