Out Of The Box
The exterior packaging is simple yet well designed. The same image is
mirrored to both sides, and there is a bulleted specification overview. There
are three languages displayed for each symbol representing a feature. The sides
reflect the same theme, with a Hanns-G logo, certification symbols, and a three
language bulleted list. As can be seen from the pictures, the packaging
definitely took some hits and scrapes during shipping. The container is adequate
protection from any reasonable impacts.
The internal cushioning for the HW194DJB consists of two matching
pieces of styrofoam, which encase both sides of the panel and base parts. This
box is secure and it will carry the monitor safely. Included in the box is one
DVI cable, one power cable, one 3.5mm audio cable, one user manual on CD, one
warranty card, and of course one monitor. Every item comes out of the box in a
fitted plastic bag.
The user manual provided is visual aid based, with written supplements.
The images and text are easy to understand throughout the sections of the .pdf.
There is nothing aggravating to note about the manual other than its lack of physical existence. After assembling the base to the stand
with one screw, the protective plastic sheet covering the TFT display can be removed.
An additional layer of protection is a plastic liner that seals the edges of
the panels. This feature further shields the panel from particles.
Alternate methods available for setup are the VESA standard
mounts. Looking closely at the back of the LCD, there are four easy to access
screws that can be removed in order to detach the stand, and attach it to any VESA mount. Another interesting note is that this monitor includes a kensington lock slot, which is denoted by a padlock symbol.
By applying light, consistent pressure from the top of
monitor, the angle of the display can be adjusted on three axes with
surprising
ease. There are thirty degrees of freedom from left to right, and there
is twenty degrees
of vertical play. Customization of the height is about as complex as
placing
two fingers and moving the panel. Movement feels solid and smooth;
whoever
designed the stand did an excellent job. Wherever the monitor is
positioned is
where it stays. The third and final axis is ninety degrees of rotation
that allows adjustment from widescreen to letter view. The stand is
engineered and well balanced, and far exceeded our standards for this
price range.
Standard to most panels from Hanns-G, the HW-194DJB has a no frills exterior
theme. Single logo, model number, and a power LED adorn the peripheral. On the
lower right side, there is a button cluster for OSD operations. These buttons
consist of "menu/enter", "A-button" (auto-adjustment), "adjust<",
"adjust>", and "Power". At the base of the monitor is a button, which frees up the display for
height adjustment.
For inputs, there are two display options and one stereo jack. The primary link is the DVI connector, and the secondary connection is the D-sub 15-pin. Finally,
there is the 3.5mm stereo input for the 1-watt speakers built into the monitor.
That is all the attention those speakers deserve, they produce sound. On the opposite side of the
connection panel is the standard three-prong power connector.
