What You Get

The packaging itself is pretty minimalist though attractive enough, being designed to either sit on a shelf or hang from a j-hook. Note the little box on the left side of the packaging under "ATSC/NTSC" where the packaging states "Hardware Ready For ClearQAM Digital Cable". We'll come back to that enigmatic statement later in the review.

Inside the package you get the card itself, an FM antenna lead, an IR Remote lead, the Mini-Remote, the A/V input adaptor for inputting S-Video or Composite Video and 2-channel audio, the Quick Start guide, the PCTV install CD (which installs the cards drivers, Windows Media Center support, and TVCenter Pro), and a Pinnacle Studio CD.

Installation is a simple matter of powering down your PC, installing the card, connecting the FM antenna, the IR remote cable, and a coaxial cable from either a cable or satellite source or an ATSC broadcast antenna, then powering back up and installing the software from the PCTV Installation CD. Well, it would seem to be that simple according to the Quick Start Guide, but it's not. Let's back up a bit and see what the problem might be.
