Overclocking with our E6300

We were able to go beyond 3GHz easily with stock cooling, but decided to settle at 2.8GHz with memory timings of 5-5-5-15 and an FSB of 400MHz. As stated before, we tested a number of memory kits with no compatibility issues, and we ran them at 1000MHz. We chose to keep our system with somewhat loose memory timings and a lower clock speed to ensure that all our readers would be able to hit at least the 2.8GHz mark if building a similar system. If one is unable to surpass 2.8GHz with a Core 2 E6300, something is seriously wrong. We did have to bump the V-Core slightly, but this had no effect on CPU temperature.

Benchmarks

We used the following benchmarks in our tests...

  • Sisoft Sandra 2007 SP1
  • Everest Ultimate Edition v3.01.652
  • 3DMark 2005
  • 3DMark 2006
  • CineBench 9.5
  • Divx Encoder 6.21
  • Winlame Prerelease4 Win32

We decided to leave the Everest Home Memory Benchmarks as screenshots, as it's a simpler way to present the information shown.

The remaining benchmarks are arranged in comparison graphs and are pretty much self explanatory. As one can see, our "budget" system performs like a champ.
