Conclusion

To sum things up and give you a good general point or two with which to take away and impress your friends with, lets touch base again on some key points.

Price: Unfortunately, price is a large concern for many consumers, as not everyone has access to large amounts of spendable cash. This is partly due to the high cost of technology goods, and the inflated price of retail stock. Sad as it may be, the dollar doesn't go very far in technology. If you are looking for the absolute BEST bang for your dollar, you need look no further than Serial ATA. It is a young, budding technology, rather future proof, and will fill your needs for years to come.

Performance: If you have the aching need for performance, and don't have $2K to blow on a disk array, consider getting a pair of Sata II disks with NCQ. They will chug under the heaviest of loads, but will maintain a decent performance level under average PC use, and even the most intense of gaming. Quite a good performance in the server arena too, where storage density needs to meet price. However, if you have $2K to blow, get a pair of 146GB SCSI disks, and a controller and your PC will fly. You will never see a performance leap from a single PC component that drastically, as you will see when you throw in a pair of SCSI disks. You'll be amazed at how fast that PC boots up, or your games load.

storage1In the end, it is up to you. You the consumer have the full power to upgrade your PC, and hopefully this guide has helped you decide just which type of disk you need to go for. Thats it guys. We'll be back again in a few weeks with an update concerning USB, Firewire, and Fiber Channel external disk storage systems.
