Groups

CPU's can be divided into four groups

  • 1. Processors for servers
  • 2. Budget desktop processors
  • 3. Performance desktop processors
  • 4. Mobile processors.

Processors for Servers
xeon
This group includes the Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron processors. These CPUs are used in big servers in large companies .These are not used in the personal desktop computers.

Budget desktop processors

semptron
This group includes the Celeron from Intel and the Sempron from AMD. These processors are quite sufficient for normal operations. They can also be used to watch movies or listen to music.

Performance desktop processors

intel-core-duo
These can be used to play games or for operations that need a lot of processing power - such as video editing. Intel's Pentium 4, the Pentium 4 D and the Core 2 Duo series belong to this group.

Mobile processors
amd_turion
These are used in laptops. AMD Turion and Intel processors with Centrino technology belong to this type. These processors do not heat up or drain the battery like the normal processors.
