Another Linux Vendor Licenses Microsoft IP PDF Print E-mail

xandros_logo_150dpiMicrosoft senior vice president Bob Muglia made an announcement at TechEd 2007 in Orlando earlier today, citing Xandros Linux as the second major Linux vendor licensing Microsoft's IP. This along with Novell doing the same earlier this year is bound to be a polarizing announcement. Is it a sign of the linux enterprise market caving in? Or is it a sign that Linux is growing up and accepting the realities of working in the real world. We're inclined to think the latter. Betanews reports...

ORLANDO - At TechEd 2007 in Orlando this morning, although there were few (if any) product announcements from the keynotes, Microsoft senior vice president Bob Muglia announced that Xandros has become the second Linux vendor to license Microsoft's intellectual property for use with Linux, following in Novell's footsteps. More details are likely to be officially revealed later this morning.

In the meantime, let the record show it was the company's Jeff Woolsey who saved humankind from the Wrath of "Product Focus." In a demonstration of System Center Virtual Machine Manager, Woolsey showed how in Windows Server 2008, a VMware virtual machine could be converted to a "Viridian" VM using a single PowerShell "command-let" (cmdlet) that can be scripted. VMs can be moved from server to server using System Center VMM, using a right-click process that is not much more difficult than using Windows Explorer.
