The RIAA's Biggest Win...So Far... Jammie Thomas Speaks Out... PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 November 2007

1). "To begin, we thank you for taking the time to speak with us. As an opener, please explain to our readers exactly who Jammie Thomas is..."

"Who I am can be summed up in a few words actually.  I’m a single mom, raising two beautiful little boys, actually young men now, and I’m trying to teach my boys the same lessons taught to me by my parents.  One of the many lessons my dad taught me was to stand up and fight for myself against bullies.  This is how I see this case and this is what I’m attempting to do."

2). "This case, apart from becoming the current benchmark of spin on all sides of the copyright debate, has most assuredly changed your life. We would surmise that it has dragged you kicking and screaming into a political, legal, and technical firestorm on line that you had never even imagined existed prior to your case. We are curious as to what you feel you have learned about the debate on these issues after picking through the noise you've experienced."

"The main thing I have learned from this debate is there are no sure answers, to any of the many questions.  There are numerous opinions flying back and forth, both for and against what the plaintiffs have chosen to do and both for and against the current status of my case.  I have actually stopped looking to the “what if’s” about this whole situation and I focus more on the day to day.  If I don’t, all of this has the potential to consume me, emotionally and mentally, and I can’t afford that possibility right now."

3). "As a result of your newfound notoriety (we use that term loosely and in no way negatively), has the support you have received, on line and off line, been generally favorable? Further, and more to the point, has any of it been useful?"

"I have actually seen more support for my cause than against, so I can only speak of that.  Every ounce of support I receive, whether financial, or emotional, or word of mouth about my cause has helped me tremendously.  There are bands in Minnesota willing to stage benefit concerts for my legal defense.  I have received financial donations from caring strangers located all over the world.  I have received dozens and dozens of emails and MySpace messages from people giving me advice, offering technical knowledge, or just to say good luck and show their support.  I have even received messages and donations from people who have settled their own cases with the recording labels and they tell me they wish they were as strong as I was to fight the way I have.  All of this shows me I have to continue forward; if not only for me, but for them as well."
