Conclusion

p4presscottbackIn many ways the Pentium 4 didn’t show its true glory and power until clock speeds began to ramp. The Northwood core will forever be remembered for its amazing Overclockability and performance. Although the Pentium 4 got off on the wrong foot, I truly feel Intel has reestablished their user base. Last year almost all my personal systems were AMD, today I am running everything Intel. The only thing AMD has going for them is price, and even that is slowly wearing away. It has become apparent that AMD has hit a brick wall with their K7 architecture in terms of raw clock speed. The next few months are going to be very interesting. Intel has their all-new Prescott core waiting in the wings and AMD’s infamous Athlon 64 is slated to be released in September 2003, FINALLY!! Will Intel eventually adopt x86-64? Will AMD’s Athlon 64 blow the competition away? Will Hyperthreading performance improve greatly? Stay tuned folks, much more is coming your way very soon. I hope you enjoyed our 800Mhz bus technical preview.
