About the author:

I'm a full time student in the truest definition of full time. I spend over forty hours a week in class and lab plus time spent on my rig doing work. I run a local computer support business to pay the bills. I don't sleep a lot. I'm Derick Shaw, founder of PointPrinciple Creative Media & Affinity Information Systems. I'm a print & broadcast designer and a system builder. This is my workstation.

About my box:

Despite being a hardware junkie and spending plenty of time tweaking friends' and clients' systems, this system was designed to be a rock solid standby rather than a cutting edge envelope-pusher. As I said, I have very little time with school and work responsibilities and this isn't going to change until graduation at the earliest. As such, having my main system any way but up is simply not acceptable, ever.

When designing the latest revision of my workstation, I looked and what had gone well in the past, and what hadn't. Some items are carryovers while others are brand new. Where applicable I will cover what I came from, what I have now and where I plan to go in the future.
