Page 3 of 3 Conclusion Intel's Core2Duo E6300, to us, offers the right mix of performance and value for an end user to base a new system on. Motherboard platforms are mature, and there are feature rich and overclocker friendly boards practically raining out of the sky, some of which at bargain basement prices if you look around. DDR-II memory no longer garners much in the way of a price premium if any at all. AMD SocketAM2 systems using DDR-II do show significantly higher memory bandwidth than Core2Duo CPU's when all else is roughly equal, but the Core2Duo architectures larger L2 caches (even the smaller 2mb cache found in the E6300) and more intelligent perfecting algorithms basically eliminate this seeming advantage. Also, ironically because Core2Duo's still use a front-side bus and external memory controller, they are less performance sensitive to memory speeds and timings. All of this is fine and well as it stands, but this is about the enthusiast right? What about overclocking? Why haven't we discussed this critical issue? Well, to put it simply we're being deliberate teases here, as we have a significant series of articles about overclocking this little monster coming very soon, with the first in just a couple of days. From the results we're seeing, and the experiences we're having so far, I think you'll be quite impressed! Stay tuned!
